In a paper dated 7 January 2023 by Jennifer Bell in Al Arabiya English, it is announced that "in a week of football triumphs for the Kingdom", FIFA has named Anoud al-Asmari as the first female international referee from Saudi Arabia.
Less than a year after Saudi Arabia's first women's national team debuted, the international football governing body appointed Al-Asmari on Thursday 5 January.
